In the afternoon of Wednesday May 26, 2004,  the official celebration was done by the commander of the Dutch Navy in the Caribbean seas, The Brigade General Zuiderwijk.

In the past year this boot was donated by the local authorities after which is was upgraded and overhauled by the staff of the marine workshop. All boot safety and diving requirements were added. The boot needed a new coating and sunroof construction, last but not least, a new registration license.

During his speech, the general Zuiderwijk explained the background and some of the technical details. He also expressed the importance of the eye catching appearance, calling for actions for reef conservation. Also he addressed the new cooperation between Reef Care and the scouting marine group. The youngsters will help in the Reef Care campaigns and join the rides on the shores.  Other activities such as the monitoring program will also us the boot. New monitoting sites can be visited and be included into the database.

Reef Care is very grateful and in its speech, all involved parties were addressed. Some summarizing words were said about the Reef Care actions and the priorities and call for regal formalization of reef/ coastal management. The call for action and attention is getting a new boost by the exposure of our new Reefguard.

The famous champagne abuse was a co-operation between the general and scout youngster, Loulou Klein.
