Kids Carnival 2005

Thanks to Miss Dartolina and her team.

Somewhere in mid January 2005 we received a call on the hotline for helping a children’s support group. The request was for support for their group which was going to participate in the children’s Carnival. The topic that they selected for this year was the underwater life, corals and reef creatures.
We made an appointment and had a look at the superb preparations: clothes were designed and custom made in Colombia, parents were already working on the trailer and all the accessories.

The kids are dressed up as Crab, Parrot fish and some other small but colorfull fish.
Our Trainee Miriam Schutter, which is a graduated marine biologist, went in her spare time to see where she could help. We also were able to lend our educational posters and our banner.  We feel very happy to experience that the subject is alive in the community. This fine group is also exposing this to the rest of the island. Within our limitations we tried to support the initiative. We didn’t start it, but are very happy about the initiative. Reef Care Curacao invited the group for a date after Carnival to ejoy a reef encounter day. Enjoy the pictures we received of the kid’s Parade of Sunday January 30, 2005.

During he main parade of Sunday 6 Februari we shaw 3 groups which expressed marine related items. We saw a group dressed up as octopus, one as fishes, and one as shells. All was colorfull and impressive and they had lots of fun.
It shows ones more that Curacao is an island where concerns of live does not stop at the beach.
