Motivation Reef Care Curacao

Worldwide the coral reefs are deteriorating alarmingly. Aside from existing and continuously increasing stress due to overpopulation, coastal development and industrial activity, the coral reefs are also faced with globally rising temperatures. Biologists predict that at this rate, coral reefs, as we know them, will disappear over the next 20 to 30 years. Although the coral reefs of Curacao are among the best of the Caribbean, unfortunately, our reefs are not exempt from the rapid deterioration. Our shallow reefs are already gone. Should we stand by and lose the rest, too?

There are three important reasons to protect the Coral Reef:

The Coral Reef is an unique phenomenon of nature. It is the richest and most diverse ocean-ecosystem, only comparable to the tropical rainforests. Neither the Tropical Rainforest nor the Coral Reef has relinquished all its secrets. Daily new species of plants and animals are discovered in both of them. They surely hide more treasures that can help in the development of useful medicines and above all, they certainly hide many treasures that improve our knowledge
The coral reefs can be considered one of the most beautiful phenomena that our planet has to offer. Our children, and our children’s children too, should be able to experience, appreciate and enjoy its unique beauty
The coral reefs are the main reason to come to Curacao for a significant and ever growing number of dive tourists. The generated income is substantial for the island’s economy: economical viewpoint
